beerinator: @kevinthepang if it was red/tomato based vinegar sauce it could be western. Eastern has no red except for pepper flakes.

This is being touted as John Manion's last hoorah at Goose Clybourn by the way. He's leaving and moving to another restaurant (menu predictions anyone?).

Wait, he was only there a year, right? Hmm.

I think his pre-Goose Island place was pan-Latino, right? Then Goose was bar food plus all things pork. [Pause for Google search) The new place is Branch 27? Straight-up food, nothing fancy or creative??? No wait, the descriptions are fancier than the names -- lots of neat things with veggies alongside the meat/fish.

Manion must be leaving on good terms because Greg Hall promoted a Goose/Branch 27 beer dinner today on twitter (strange that he didn't promote the dinner at his own pub tonight?).

I would guess that the menu will stay similar to what it currently is now, but I haven't heard whether they will be trying to replace him with a known chef, or just get someone who can continue with the menu as it is.

I was a bit leery at first, but I thought the smoked dunkelweizenbock and pumpkin pie were a great pairing.  And the barrel aged cranberry extra naughty goose was a nice way to end the evening.

The brewers did not like the smoked dunkelweizenbock pairing, but I thought it worked ok. There was a bit of a harsh step to get over the smoke, and that detracted a bit from the pairing, but the flavors seemed to go ok.

The Cranberry Naughty Goose was great!

They had just run out of the Cranberry when I checked last Thursday!   Empty!

Is it back on tap, or did they hold some back specifically for the dinner?
