Draught is open.
http://beermapping.com/gabf/2008/

Ok, I haven't really started work on this yet, but I have started drawing up details on how it is going to work.

For those of you who have no idea as to what I am talking about, it's GABF Fantasy Football Brewery Something-or-other.  Basically the people participating will have a list of the breweries that are submitting beers to be judged at the GABF and they will be attempting to select the breweries that will win them the most points.  Each brewery will only be able to be picked by one person.  I think we will limit the number to between 30 and 35 beermappers.  If there is a tremendous amount of interest, I might be able to make two pools.

Gold Medal = 3 points
Silver Medal = 2 points
Bronze Medal = 1 point

Here are the scores from last year:
http://beermapping.com/gabf/2007/

I have a new system for the draft and here I will outline it:
1. You register.  Basically just throwing your hat into the ring, you must be registered for the site and then you simply will click "join" or something similar.
2. You will update your top 10 brewery list.  This is very important, this list will basically be your default picks if you can't make your picking time.
3. You will wait until your turn to vote.  Each person gets an hour to make their vote.  When the hour is up, the system will search through that person's top 10 list and it will select the highest ranked pick that is still available.  You can vote anytime during your hour, but every person will get the full hour (so even if you vote at 1 minute past, the next guy still has to wait the full hour).  If your hour is up and all entries on your top ten list are gone then your pick will be random at the end of your hour.
4. rinse repeat.

Basically if you are going to bed (or work), and your pick is 4 hours away, you will simply need to ensure that you have more than 4 breweries on your top ten list that are still available.  You'll be able to edit or tweak your top 10 at any time.  This thing is going to run 24 hours a day and if we go 8 rounds it will end up taking 10 days or so till completion.

I will likely not be doing live results entry at GABF because I don't think I am going this year.  Looking at a Draft start time of September 22nd or so.

Looking forward to it.  Good ideas to make it go smoother.  It might be good to include a mobile access page so that folks on the go can make their pick from a phone.  Just a thought.

That could end up doubling my time since I will have to build and maintain two different views.  We'll see, but I wouldn't expect anything like this to happen.

As long as you don't use any kind of Flash interface, I would expect I could use the regular pages on the iPhone OK.

Maybe I'll write the whole thing in Microsoft Silverlight!

note: obviously I am joking, and obviously I will not be writing any of this in flash.  If your phone/pda/digital watch can load up an html page you will be able to plug in your scores.

Hope you didn't think I seemed ungrateful... This was a lot of fun last year, and I'm looking forward to it.  Sounds like you are dealing quite well with the only part of it that was a little frustrating at times.  It looks like I'll be traveling in SoCal when it starts, so being able to do it mobile is of particular interest to me.

Yes, I was able to select last year with my (now long outdated) treo.  Keeping the selection page simple should make it a quicker process.  By using the top 10 list, it shouldn't be a big issue anyway.  I too enjoyed the draft last year and am glad to see it return for this year's competition. Toast!

Yeah, in theory you can update your top ten list at home before leaving for a 10 hour trip and it will vote for you, so you shouldn't need all this mobile stuff unless you aren't going to be near a computer for a few days.

Cruddy crud crud.  We'll be computer-less in Belgium and Germany so I'll have to pass this year.

But methinks I'll have fun anyway.  Double wow!

No one has signed up yet.  I will try to have that going by the weekend.  I haven't promoted this at all yet, so I doubt it fills up too quickly until I send out emails or post it on the front page.
