Microsoft just rolled out some new changes to Microsoft Live Maps:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/11/microsoft-live-maps-drinks-google-maps-milkshake/Google maps is sweet and I like them better overall than Microsoft's Live maps, but Live Maps have some solid features too. Like Birds Eye View, which is more of an angled shot from above.
Today (or recently) they have launched the ability to import kml files. KML files are files that google earth uses and we here at The Beer Mapping Project also use for a few things.
Our mobile maps use kml and the url is something like this:
beermapping.com/k/indianapolis (where indianapolis is the name of any city)
Live Maps can now take our url appended to their url and they will display it on their maps:
http://maps.live.com/?mapurl=http://beermapping.com/k/indianapolisGoogle map for reference:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http:%2F%2Fbeermapping.com%2Fk%2FindianapolisAnyway, I think it's pretty cool that a standard file type that we are using for a few maps here is becoming accepted by other sources, so we can offer more options to our users!
Feel free to play around with url's like this one:
http://maps.live.com/?mapurl=http://beermapping.com/k/chicagoChange the city on the end to see what you can find. And definitely you should check out the birds eye view for locations that you have visited. It's really sweet.
