Blog Mapping Example
This is a short tutorial (or example walk-through) for how to add a proximity map to your blog or website. This particular example has been tested in both the wordpress and blogger blog systems.
<iframe src="http://beermapping.com/maps/blogproxy.php?locid=1530&d=1" width="450" height="300"></iframe>
- The “d” variable is distance
- The “locid” variable is the unique id of the location. This can be found by searching for a location and clicking either the “printer friendly view” link or the “review links”. The url address of the new page will contain the “locid” for that location.
- You can change “width” and “height” to suit your blog. I wouldn’t suggest making the map much smaller than 300 height.
- If you are using a wordpress blog, or if you are writing html pages you can simply copy and paste the above code into your blog post or site code to make it work. Obviously you would need to tweak the variables to make it work for your particular example.
Changing any of these variables will change what is seen in the maps or how the map looks on your site
This example is a 1 mile radius map of Chicago’s Map Room
(Map Room = locid: 1530).
Map Rules and Specifics:
All links on the maps will open in a new window or tab (this is an iframe issue).
You are not required to mention where you got the map (although it isn’t discouraged either) because there are links in the popup info bubbles on the maps that could take a user back to beermapping.com
It is a requirement that you are using these iframe maps to promote beer, and not using the maps to slander a location or otherwise using them in a negative manner.
The distance for the “proximity” can be a decimal number (for the more populous areas) and the maximum distance for the radius is capped out at 25 miles.
