Which Road to the Beer?
“Driving Directions” functionality has been added to the US Brewery Maps. So far there is only one real bug popping up after implementing the driving directions and it is sort of a biggie. If a user selects a brewery/brewpub with an apostrophe in their name, an error will occur after linking to google for the directions. The work around is fairly easy to handle, but it’s not clear to the first time user just what might have happened.
To “fix” this issue, you would simply make sure that the “End” address field on google contains only the latitude and longitude. Google “hangs up” on the apostrophe and my code doesn’t have a chance to close the parenthesis so an error occurs. Removing the parenthesis and all text, or closing the parenthesis manually will both work as a work around for this bug. I will be playing around with the code to see how I can make these errors go away.
We will be updating the City Beer Maps to have an option for Directions soon.
